I've always wanted to ask this but was too scared of what people would think. So is it bad to shave your entire nether region? Or would you just do a partial shave or leave it entirely?
I mean when I was younger I always heard - to put it lightly - that only the very promiscuous types shave it all off - I know that's not true. Or if I don't shave it all off am I considered "not clean"? The partial shave seems to be in the middle of the two so is it just better to do that?
I personally would prefer it all off because I just feel cleaner but I'm scared to shave it all off when having all these appointments in fear what the doctors may think . So is it normal to shave it all off? Would the doctors think differently of me if I did or didn't?
I know this is such a dumb question but one I've pondered for a long time and thought that it wouldn't hurt to just throw the question out there in blogger land.
Ha! Totally valid discussion topic - I think we've all wondered this very question. My take on it is less is more, but not totally bare (which seems a bit creepy to me for some reason - not sure why - maybe I have issues?) I say whatever makes you feel the most comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why we're so self conscious about that, and why we even care what the doctors think! Myself, I just keep things trimmed up nice 'n neat so the doc can get the wand where it needs to be, when I'm cycling anyway. But normally I shave part and leave the rest. You should do whatever makes you feel comfortable, I'm sure the doctors have seen every hair style imaginable!!
ReplyDeleteDo what feels right.
ReplyDeleteI think it's just a little creepy to have it all off too, though I feel cleaner, it's still creepy. I think that's why opt for the "part shaved, part not" look 99% of the time.
ReplyDeleteI do wish I wasn't so self-conscious about it but I guess it's the least I can do to ease my anxiety a bit.
So I guess it's part shaved part not. :)
I'm an au natural kinda girl. When I talked to other ladies, the thought of going au natural really wigged them out. But the way I figure, my body looks like this naturally--why should I be ashamed? Maybe I'm weird? and if I am, ah, so what!? :) Happy ICLW!
ReplyDeleteIf you are going to take off all or most...splurge for a wax. It really doesn't hurt THAT bad...and it's so much better!! Totally worth it. :)
ReplyDeletei say, take it all off. i mean if your going to take the time to do it, just get rid of all of it!
ReplyDeletelove that you asked this question.
jes g iclw
I'm normally the half and half girl... but during treatments it all comes off. :o) Happy ICLW!

Love this question! Some say if you're going to shave, you must do it everyday to make it easier. I just can't commit to that much time after I roll out of bed. I usually go half and half. It is just too uncomfortable in a few days if it all comes off! Way over the line, but I love that I got to answer this question and hear what others out there are doing!
ReplyDeleteHappy ICLW!
Hi Stopping by from ICLW. I say wax instead of shave and leave a landing strip. Much more appropriate for surgery :-).
ReplyDeleteHappy ICLW!
ReplyDeleteGREAT question!
I'm an all off waxing kind of girl. I once had a horrible experience when my former waxing girl left a landing strip that all too closely resembled a Hitler type mustache. Hehe. Just take a couple ibuprofen before. :)
I love the the responses here. I don't think I can wax down there though, I mean I can totally do the the bikini area but down there... ouch!! and I just don't know if I could get someone to do that for me. How do you ladies do that if that's the route you go?
ReplyDeleteVisiting from ICLW, this is a hilarious post. I've also wondered the same thing! We infertiles have enough to worry about allready but still worry about the little things! I never worried with my female OB/GYN thought but I have wondered what my 70 year old male RE thinks... Personally I'm a leave a little behind kinda girl, bare makes me feel 10 years old and fuzzy seems unclean. To each their own though!
ReplyDeleteYes that's exactly it, a 10 year old. That, I think, is what is holding me back on the all off part especially when cycling.
ReplyDeleteI ponder this every single time I have ET. I go for partial shaving, I think waxing would be neater, but I just cant face it!
ReplyDeleteGreat question! I've shaved it all off exactly once. It felt way to weird and hubby thought it was strange too. He wanted a woman, not a child. :D
ReplyDeleteSome times I just can't be bothered to shave anything at all (underarms, legs or down below). I told hubby if he didn't like it, it was his problem and he could shave it if he didn't like it. No complaints so far.
But most often, my everyday look is half shaved and half there and what is there is trimmed.
I've shaved down there (*completely) for more than a decade now after a friend told me she did and it liberated her! It is a pain to have to constantly keep up with it (or it will itch like crazy) but I think it's so worth it...and no, I've never gotten a funny look by any doctor or nurse. If ever I got a comment, it was more appreciative actually like well, thanks for shaving! ;-)
ReplyDeleteSorry about your dad! I just added you on my links and just featured your blog for my blog love Mondays! Happy ICLW!
Hello from ICLWland! Love this post and the comments!
ReplyDeleteAs for me, we shave it all off. My husband actually does it for me, and it's a huge turn on for both of us! I find it a lot more comfortable that way. When I don't have time, I just give it a really good trim.
I figure the RE and staff have seen it all, by now.
That's a tough one. While I typically prefer the whole "natural" idea, I must say that I don't appreciate feeling like some kind of gorilla or other hairy beast. I find that some nice trimming, shaving, and cleaning makes all the difference in the world (and helps me avoid the painful regrowth process).
