DE FET #3 - The Arrival Of Our Twins

Sorry it's been so long, I've been meaning to post something way sooner but every time I start I get distracted with either H or the twins. Let's give this another go. I've now given this so many attempts that three months have passed.

Much like last time it really wasn't uneventful. On May 31st I went in to get IVIG because I had very low platelets, around 55 I believe. To be sure the treatment of IVIG worked I went for a blood test the next day, June 1st, and they were even lower so that afternoon my OB admitted me to the hospital. They weren't sure what we were going to do at this point but they just wanted me there so they could observe me.

June 2nd at 9:00am was my scheduled C Section. I wasn't sure if it was going to happen that day, I was just crossing my fingers because I was getting so uncomfortable with the swelling. I was asking the nurses all morning to see if it was still a go but they weren't sure but then someone came to get me and it was a go. I was so excited to meet them.

We get into the room where they prep you with iv and stuff and they took my blood to check my platelets again and they came back too low, 45 I believe, so they said they didn't want to preform the c-section, that I would have to have a general. I was so upset, I wanted to see my babies when they were born and I've also heard that I could be at a higher risk for postpartum if we did it this way. Luckily I had a very lovely persistent nurse that stood up for me and they agreed to give me a transfusion of platelets to see if they went up. Luckily they went up - just barely - and by 2pm we were in the room ready for the c-section.

We had our second and third little miracles at 36 weeks 4 days, which was our scheduled c-section day, on June 2, 2016. At 2:10pm our little boy, A was born weighing 6lbs 14oz and at 2:11pm our little girl, H was born weighing 5lbs 7oz.

This is them today, September 12, 2016, at 15 weeks old. We are all doing very well and they are growing like weeds already but I have to say that caring for twins has to be the hardest thing I've ever done in my life but I love them to bits!!

DE FET #3 - 36 weeks, 2 days

Its been a crazy last few weeks. I've been more swollen and my blood pressure has been going up so they put me on blood pressure meds and started me on an in home antenatal care program. I was hoping I could have these babies at 36 weeks the latest but because my platelets are so low they put me on prednisone to try to get them higher so is can have a spinal during my c section. The prednisone initially worked and they went up to 73 then 7 days later it went down to 62 so now I'm having to do IVIG to get them back up, which will takes like 8 hours. So now it looks like I'll be having them on my scheduled c section date of June 2. I guess it's not a bad thing but man my stomach is hurting so bad because I can feel it stretching. These babies are big. I sure hope this works.

DE FET #3 - 33 weeks, 2 days

I wasn't feeling well yesterday and I had high BP all day the previous day and again yesterday so I called my OB's office and told them how I was feeling and they told me to go to the hospital. I went and my BP was even higher ( maybe white coat syndrome lol) so they gave me BP meds to lower it and I've been fine since. They checked my platelets and they went up to 73 from my Thursdays blood draw of 69 so they sent me home. The swelling in my legs have gotten really bad and my hands and face are swelling too. I pray it doesn't get any worse and hope I can at least make it to 36 weeks.

Then today I went to see my OB and she was surprised that they sent me home and especially with out giving me the steroid shot for the babies lungs because she thinks I'm slowing getting preeclampsia again and it's just a matter of time so she sent me back today (apparently the hospital is the only place that will administer the shot) to have that done and I have to go back tomorrow for a second round.

Aside from all this the babies are doing great! The boy is weighing in at 5lbs and the girl is weighing in at 4.5lbs so not tiny by any means.

DE FET #3 - 30 weeks, 4 days

Last week I had yet another ultrasound to see the twins. The boy is estimated to be weighing in at 3lbs 8oz and the girl is weighing in at 3lbs 6oz so very close to her brother. The doctor said that they are little chunky monkeys. Which in a way I suppose is a good thing but let me tell you it's been hard on mama to say the least.

My belly has gotten pretty big but that's to be expected with twins I suppose and I've only had minimal swelling at this point. I am so greatful for that. I pray that I don't swell like I did last time. With my belly so big it's so hard to do anything at this point I can't imagine throwing in the swelling. Though most of all I just want these little guys to be healthy. Oh and I've had heart burn this last week which has been so unbearable, I've never had heart burn before, it sucks so bad. My blood pressure has been increasing, now when I go to my OB's office it's been 140/90 but when I'm at home it's like 110/84 so she wants to watch it but thinks I may deliver sooner. I hope it doesn't go up.

On April 16th, just about a week ago now, Little H climbed out of his crib so we converted his crib into the toddler  bed.  So far he's done pretty good with it. He's gotten up out of his bed twice this week at night to either play or get his water but other then that I think he's done a pretty good transition so far. He's just growing up so fast these days. And he's talking up a storm too, he's such a smart little boy.

Got the cal today and my scheduled c-section booked for June 2nd at 9:00 so if all goes well that will be the twins birthday.

DE FET #3 - 25 weeks, 5 days

It's Friday today, I've been officially off work on short term disability now for 5 days. This week has been good, except for the fact that since Thursday I've developed a bad chest cold with a nasty sore throat. Sleeping the last few nights have been horrible. I sure hope it goes away soon.

I had an OB appt on Tuesday and she said all is looking good with the babies except I still have a marginally low lying placenta so I still have to take it easy but she said I can now go on my elliptical but at an easy pace so that's good news. She measured my belly and I'm measuring at 31 weeks so not small by any means but not super big either, thank goodness.

As for the swelling it really hasn't been too bad, let's hope it continues. I just have some marginal swelling in my feet and calves by the end of the day.
